Thanksgiving - Harvest Time, Gratitude Time!

An American popular tradition, but little known in Brazil, thanksgiving, or Thanksgiving Day, is a millennial celebration of good harvests. After a long season of bad harvest and rigorous autumns, there was finally a good harvest in 1621 and a great thanksgiving party was made.

At that time, there were still many native Americans who had spiritual influence and brought their hunting party to the party to share and thank God for finally so much abundance. The milestone of the good harvest was so strong that many people gathered and shared food and thanked them together.

Even today countries like the United States and Canada celebrate this day and have it as a national holiday, thus taking place parades and major social actions to ensure food for needy families and to thank the abundance of the year.

Thanksgiving, or turkey day as it is known in the US, brings families together for hearty meals in order to be grateful for the food provided.

This holiday is marked and illustrated by families around large tables with typical foods such as:

1. Turkey (roast turkey, as we have at Christmas) hence the nickname “turkey day”

2. Stuffing (a cornbread stuffing to “stew the turkey”)

3. Mac and cheese (famous in the oven-baked macaroni series)

4. Cranberry sauce (sweet cranberry sauce to eat with turkey)

5. Pumpkin or sweet potato pie

6. Corn (roasted corn on the cob)

7. Mashed potatoes

8. Corn bread

9. Potato salad (potato salad that we commonly call mayonnaise salad. The only difference is that we put vegetables in ours and they only make potatoes and mayonnaise)

10. Green beans

11. Apple Pie

12. Red velvet cake (red velvet cake that takes cream cheese filling)

Well, I think you can see why we say it's a day of plenty. I don't know about you, but I got hungry after reading this. I hope that reflecting on thanksgiving not only made you think about food, but it raised in you gratitude.

What are you thankful for?

Thanksgiving holiday has been celebrated on Thursday of the fourth week of November and as we have gone through the menu, just start cooking and don't forget to call friends to share and share what you are thankful for, then tell us about your experience.
